Why You Should Stop Asking for a "Classic" or "Volume" Set

It can be difficult identifying the lash style you would like to have. There are so many different variations!

• Spikey

• Wispy

• Airy

• Perfect topline

  
  

These are just a few of the different styles you'll hear about.

Then you also have to choose between:

• Classic

• Hybrid

• Volume

  
  

Rather than trying to understand what all of that means, all you need to do is find inspo photos. Your lash artist should be able to analyze your natural lashes and determine what type of set will give you the look you're after.

Some artists still charge different prices for these sets. Let me explain why I believe you should go to someone who charges one price for any style.

Here's an example.

Let's say you find an inspo photo that you LOVE from my portfolio. The photo is of my client Sandra, who has a TON of healthy, natural lashes. Seriously, she has so many that we wonder why she even gets extensions.

Sandra has a Classic set on, but because she naturally has so many lashes, it looks super full.

If you show me that photo, I'll tell you she has a Classic set. So naturally, you'd think you should book a Classic appointment to get the same result... right?

But if you don't have as many natural lashes as Sandra, a Classic set won't look the same on you. It could end up looking sparse or much more natural than you intended. If I tell you you're getting the same appointment as Sandra, you're expecting the same results. Obviously.

Since you don't have as many natural lashes, it may require a few volume fans (lash extensions with multiple fibers applied to one natural lash) to recreate that same look. Those fans aren't traditionally included in a Classic set.

Your lash artist should be analyzing your natural lashes and deciding what techniques and extensions will get you as close as possible to the inspiration photo YOU brought in.

In this case, if they charge different prices based on the type of set, they'll likely tell you that you need a Hybrid appointment because you don't have enough natural lashes for a Classic set to achieve the same look.

Now you're paying more than Sandra simply because you don't have as many natural lashes... even though the appointment may take the exact same amount of time.

Another unfortunate layer to this is that many lash artists who charge different prices don't look far enough ahead to realize a different technique may be needed to achieve your inspiration photo. They aren't customizing each set to the individual client. In my opinion, that's where the artistry starts to disappear.

Lash franchises are especially known for using this pricing structure because it's easier to standardize. It allows them to control the consistency of the work coming out of the franchise, but it also means artists often aren't trained extensively enough to truly customize each set.

Simply put, it shouldn't matter whether you know how to ask for a wispy, spikey, Classic, or Volume set.

You should be able to bring in a photo, and your lash artist should determine how to lash you to achieve that look.

Look for a local artist who customizes every set to fit your eyes, your natural lashes, and your goals.
